OREANDA-NEWS. The Department of Defense declared that the United States began the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in the framework of the agreement concluded with members of the Islanic fundamentalist movement Taliban.

This was announced by Colonel Sonny Leggett, a Spokesman for US Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A). “In accordance with the US-Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Joint Declaration and the US-Taliban Agreement, US Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A) has begun its conditions-based reduction of forces to 8,600 over 135 days,” he said.

On March 2, US President Donald Trump, after signing a peace agreement with the Taliban, stated that the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan would begin immediately. In addition, he threatened that in case of violation of the terms of the deal, US military would rapidly return to Afghanistan.
