OREANDA-NEWS The UN will work with all parties to maintain access of food products and fertilizers from Russia and Ukraine to world markets. This was stated on Friday by the UN Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths at a meeting of the Security Council.
"The UN will continue to work with all parties involved to ensure that Russian and Ukrainian fertilizers and food will be delivered to world markets," he said.
"The united support of the international community and, I hope, this Security Council is necessary to accomplish this task," Griffiths added.
In turn, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said at the meeting that Russia would be ready to return to the grain deal, provided that its principles of participation in the initiative are taken into account and implemented.
Among these principles, he called the "real, not speculative" withdrawal of grain and fertilizer supplies from sanctions, the removal of obstacles for banks servicing these supplies, the resumption of supplies of spare parts for agricultural machinery to the Russian Federation, resolving issues with ship freight and insurance of supplies, ensuring conditions for expanding fertilizer supplies, restoring the operation of the Tolyatti ammonia pipeline - Odessa", the unblocking of assets related to the agricultural sector and the restoration of the humanitarian nature of the transaction.
"As soon as all these conditions are met, we will immediately return to the grain deal," Polyansky summed up.
On July 17, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian side had sent its objections to Ankara, Kiev and the UN regarding the extension of the grain deal.
