OREANDA-NEWS The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has launched an investigation into cases of torture of Russian servicemen who were captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported in the press service of the TFR.
"Employees of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation will give a legal assessment of each case during the inspections. Based on the results, the issue of initiating a criminal case will be resolved," the press release says.
The agency cited the stories of servicemen who, as a result of an exchange with the Ukrainian side, were returned to Russia. The soldiers told about threats and beatings — they were subjected to suffocating techniques, electrocution, they were not given medical care for a long time, were not fed and forced to read Ukrainian propaganda slogans on camera.
Prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine take place regularly. The last exchange took place on June 29 and became the largest since the beginning of the military special operation in Ukraine — 144 Russians to 144 Ukrainians. The Ukrainian side, in turn, accuses the Russian military of torturing prisoners of war and violating the requirements of the Geneva Convention.
