OREANDA-NEWS  Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma deputy from Crimea, a member of the security Committee, proposed to toughen penalties for crimes in the economic sphere for the period of a special military operation.

"I consider it completely justified measures in the current conditions to initiate the introduction of a multiple increase in terms and fines, at least twice, for the period of our country's special operation, in relation to persons who have committed criminally punishable acts, primarily of an economic orientation," Sheremet told RIA Novosti.

In his opinion, this measure would be more preventive in nature and would be able to significantly reduce crime in all areas, thereby disciplining citizens.

"The commission of serious illegal actions during the period of ITS operation is at least vile and should be regarded as nothing other than betrayal and looting, which means that the punishment should be commensurate with the severity of the crime committed," the deputy said.
