State Duma Deputy Maria Butina, in a conversation with NEWS.ru, said that she was reserved about the statement of former US President Donald Trump, who called the decision of Russian leader Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics a brilliant one. The parliamentarian noted that the former head of the States thus "plays on the opposition agenda" to the current head of the United States, Joe Biden. The speaker also stressed that, in general, she agrees with Trump.

I am very reserved about Trump's position. As practice shows, his words and actions with each other, as a rule, are not combined. Therefore, naturally, now he is playing on an agenda that is in opposition to Biden. So I think we need to be careful here. In fact, I agree with his words. This is really a brilliant move - the recognition of the independence of the LNR and the DNR, - said Butina.

Putin, who recognized the DPR and LPR, declared most of Ukraine independent. This is a very smart and ingenious decision, Trump said in an interview with the American podcast The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show. The politician called the Russian Federation the most powerful peacekeeping force in the region.

US President Joe Biden said earlier that new sanctions would be imposed against Russia that would affect Russia's sovereign debt, Russian elites and two banks.

According to Biden, Russia "cut off a big piece from Ukraine" and continued such actions. The United States has no wish to fight the Russian Federation, but wants to make it clear that it will protect every piece of NATO territory, the American leader said.
