The proposal of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell to resolve the conflict in Ukraine by military means did not shock the Russian government, said Ernest Valeev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption. In his opinion, the politician just announced the main goal of the United States and its European partners in Ukraine, writes Pravda.Ru.

He said what was originally conceived and planned by Europe and the United States - the maximum prolongation of the armed conflict and, of course, the provision of both financial assistance and the supply of various weapons. And now we are talking about the supply of heavy weapons. They are all aimed at prolonging the conflict,” the parliamentarian said.

Valeev noted that the main goal of this provoked conflict is the weakening and destruction of Russia. Therefore, there is nothing unexpected in the words voiced by Borrell. He said what was in the minds of European and US politicians.

Borrell said earlier that the only way to resolve the conflict in Ukraine is by military means, and the EU plans to continue supplying weapons and ammunition to Kiev. According to him, the EU should consider the issue of "full-scale application of sanctions" against Russia and discuss new restrictions. He also said that the European Union is ready to provide additional funds from the European Peace Fund for military assistance to Ukraine.
