OREANDA-NEWS  The situation in Syria is dramatic. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on Sputnik radio.

"The main thing is that [the situation in Syria] does not turn from dramatic to totally tragic," the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

On December 8, the militants of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, recognized as a terrorist group and banned in Russia) took control of Damascus. After that, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad flew out of the city in an unknown direction.

Earlier, Zakharova called the safety of Russian citizens Russia's most important priority in Syria. According to her, everything necessary is being done to ensure it.
