OREANDA-NEWS Moscow is calling for an investigation into the airstrike on the residence of the UAE ambassador in Khartoum, such attacks violate international law, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Earlier, the UAE accused the Sudanese army of involvement in an airstrike on the residence of the head of the Emirati diplomatic mission in the Sudanese capital. Last week, the Sudanese armed forces launched a large-scale offensive against the RBU positions in Khartoum. The Sudanese Armed Forces rejected the UAE's accusations, blaming the Rapid Reaction Forces (RBF, paramilitary forces).

"For its part, Russia strongly condemns any attacks on diplomatic missions and attempts on their integrity. There is no justification for such actions that violate the basic norms of international law. The Russian side calls for a thorough investigation of the incident," the statement on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Ministry also appealed to the internationally recognized leadership of the Sudan, represented by the Sovereign Council and the command of the Rapid Reaction Forces, with an urgent recommendation to immediately cease hostilities and begin serious political negotiations aimed at working out mutually acceptable agreements on a way out of the fratricidal intra-Sudanese conflict.

"Russia is ready, in coordination with regional partners, to actively facilitate the organization of such contacts," the ministry added.

Since April 15, 2023, fierce fighting has been going on in Sudan between the Rapid Reaction Forces (RDF) under the command of Mohammed Hamdan Daglo and the regular army. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has stated that the ongoing fighting in the country could lead to outbreaks of disease and a fatal collapse of the health system.
