OREANDA-NEWS The Ministry of Finance plans to develop and approve requirements for the compatibility of software products with Russian operating systems within 3-4 months, said the head of the department Maksut Shadaev.
"We plan to resolve the issue of compatibility (of the software) with Russian operating systems by the end of the summer," he said. - We will now prescribe the deadlines for ensuring compatibility for certain categories of software."
The Minister noted that a lot of operating systems are registered in the Register of Russian Software (software included in this register receives various preferences in public procurement and procurement of state-owned companies) and it is impossible to require compatibility with all application solutions.
"Therefore, the industry has chosen three operating systems that, in the opinion of software developers, are the most mature," Shadaev added.
He explained the need to establish separate deadlines for the introduction of OS compatibility requirements for each category of application software products by the complexity of a particular software.
"In complex software products, for example, in computer-aided design systems, it takes much more time to ensure compatibility with the OS," Shadaev noted. - And there are simpler solutions or already compatible ones. Therefore, we are now discussing in detail with the industry the timing for each category of software, when OS compatibility requirements should begin to apply for them."
At the end of 2022, Domestic Software and industrial competence centers (ICCS, which include the largest customers, as well as developers of various software) held a vote on the OS, as a result of which three products were identified: Astra Linux (Astra Group), Alt OS (Basalt SPO) and "Red OS" (Red Soft).
At the beginning of 2024, the Ministry of Finance stated that it plans to establish requirements for compatibility of Russian software with Russian operating systems closer to the end of the year.
The Ministry of Finance has been paying attention to the compatibility of various Russian software products over the past few years. So, in 2023, the agency reported that it was working on the issue of creating independent compatibility testing centers for Russian software and hardware in the country.
"We plan to initiate or stimulate the creation of independent testing centers, which, at the request of (the customer or manufacturer - IF), will be able to evaluate according to uniform standards: such a system of compliance for our tasks, for example, is the compatibility of Russian software with Russian hardware and operating systems," said Maxim Parshin, then deputy head of the ministry, in 2023.
