OREANDA-NEWS The probability of an outbreak of anthrax in Russia is extremely low due to the peculiarities of infection with it, according to epidemiologist, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Vadim Pokrovsky. In conversation he assessed the possibility of a widespread spread of the disease in Russia after confirming the diagnosis in four people.
Anthrax is not transmitted from person to person, so there is no threat of mass spread. It can be infected mainly by eating products made from this animal and by contact with skins. According to the epidemiologist, the outbreak is probably connected with some one farm where a lot of cattle are kept.
"Apparently, quarantine will be imposed on this farm, persons in contact with animals from this farm will be examined, persons in contact with animals from this farm will be examined, and the source will be found — which animal and where it was first infected. Most likely, it happened on old pastures where animals could be buried. There is no epidemiological danger, Rospotrebnadzor will definitely take measures so that no more animals and especially people are infected," he concluded.
Rospotrebnadzor also confirmed the "Tape.ru", that there is no threat of the spread of anthrax in Russia.
Anthrax was confirmed in four residents of Tyva, the press service of the regional Rosselkhoznadzor reported. They all ate horse meat. Rosselkhoznadzor specialists are currently working in this area to prevent further spread of the disease.
