OREANDA-NEWS  Two cases of the disease with a new variant of coronavirus XES have been identified in Russia, Rospotrebnadzor reported.

"Rospotrebnadzor is constantly carrying out molecular genetic monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 nucleotide sequences circulating in Russia (...) two cases of COVID-19 related to the XEC variant have been recorded in the Rostov region and Ufa," the press service of the department told reporters.

They recalled that XEC is a recombinant variant formed by a combination of two earlier subvariants of the Omicron-KS coronavirus FLiRT.1.1 and KP.3.3. Its symptoms are similar to previously circulating variants and include fever, sore throat, cough, loss of sense of smell and appetite, body pain, fatigue, headache and runny nose.

The XEC variant is most common in France, where it accounts for about 21% of cases, in Germany (15%) and the United Kingdom (8%), Rospotrebnadzor said.

Earlier it was reported that Rospotrebnadzor specialists are monitoring the situation with a new variant of the XEC coronavirus, which is rapidly spreading in countries around the world, while its symptoms are similar to omicron subvariants.
