The National Guard Was Brought to Portland to Curb Unrest after Presidential Election
OREANDA-NEWS. The authorities of the American state of Oregon have decided to use the National Guard to maintain public order in the city of Portland, where citizens took to the streets after the presidential election.
“In the interest of public safety, Governor Kate Brown, under advice of the Unified Command, activated the use of the Oregon National Guard to assist officers in responding to acts of violence, and to maintain public order and ensure community safety. Law enforcement officers and members of the Oregon National Guard assisted in crowd management, clearing space for business owners to safely board up their properties,” Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office reported on Twitter.
It is known that more than ten people were detained.
On November 3, the presidential election was held in the United States. Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden are running for the post. Counting of votes is in progress. Both candidates have already reported of violations in several states.
