OREANDA-NEWS  The Ministry of Health introduced the concept of combating the use of tobacco products to the government of the Russian Federation.

This was announced on Tuesday at an expanded meeting of the Federation Council Committee on social policy, Deputy Minister of health Oleg Salagay.

"The concept of implementation of the state policy in the field of tobacco control has already been submitted to the government," he said.

Earlier, media reported that the Ministry of Health of Russia has prepared a new draft concept for the implementation of the state anti-tobacco policy, according to which the level of tobacco consumption is planned to be reduced to 5% in the next 30 years, and then the possibility of phasing it out of legal circulation is being considered.

The number of smokers in Russia has decreased by 21% since the implementation of the anti-tobacco concept of the Ministry of health. This was announced on February, 13 by Deputy Minister Oleg Salagay during the Russian investment forum in Sochi.

"Those who smoke in our country now, fortunately, 30%, which is 21% less than it was before the start of an active anti - tobacco campaign," - said the Deputy Minister of Health.

We will remind, at the end of last year it became known that the Ministry of Health plans a gradual withdrawal of tobacco products from the market after 2050. At the same time, within the framework of the anti-tobacco concept, it is planned to reduce the spread of tobacco consumption among the population to 5% by 2050.

Russia joined the world health organization Convention on tobacco control in 2008 and then adopted the national Concept on tobacco control. Since 2013, the law "on protection of citizens' health from the consequences of tobacco consumption" has been in force in the country.

Also on 28 December, Russia's Supreme court ordered the residents smokers to compensate moral damage to the neighbors if the smoke gets into their apartment.
