OREANDA-NEWS The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation continues negotiations on a tax agreement with the UAE, the next round will take place within the next month, Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Sazanov told reporters.
"We are bringing our positions closer. The next round will take place within the next month. We are working," he said, commenting on the progress of negotiations on a tax agreement with the UAE.
Sazanov also noted that negotiations with other jurisdictions are possible, "if there is interest from Russian business, with whom it will be necessary to negotiate." "We are open. At the moment, yes, with the Arab Emirates (we are negotiating - ed.)," the deputy minister added.
To the clarifying question whether negotiations are being held only with the UAE, he replied: "Yes. We have already signed with Oman, now it will be ratified. We have completed negotiations with Malaysia, and now we are in the process of negotiations with the Arab Emirates."
In early June, the Omani state news agency ONA and the Russian Ministry of Finance reported that the governments of the Sultanate of Oman and Russia signed an agreement in Muscat on the avoidance of double taxation on income and the prevention of tax evasion to expand investment cooperation between the two countries. Then it was clarified that the ratification of the protocol should take place before the end of this year, so that its provisions would become effective from the beginning of 2024. Later in June, Sazanov said that the ministry continues to work on adjusting tax agreements with Turkey, the UAE, Malaysia - looking for mutually acceptable solutions.
At the end of last year, the Ministry of Finance announced that it was preparing to negotiate tax agreements with the UAE, Turkey and Malaysia, and everything was ready to be signed with Oman. Then the Ministry of Finance explained that the purpose of revising tax agreements with countries and concluding new ones is to attract direct investment into the Russian economy by creating comfortable tax conditions in the Russian Federation, competitive with other jurisdictions.
