OREANDA-NEWS The World Trade Organization (WTO) continues to play a positive role for Russia even in the current circumstances, Ekaterina Mayorova, director of the Trade Negotiations Department at the Ministry of Economic Development, told RIA Novosti.

"The WTO has played a positive role even in the circumstances in which we are now, because it has provided us with the opportunity to quickly diversify trade and quickly switch from one market to another," she said on the sidelines of the session "Re-BRICSing: Expectations from Trade" organized by the Russian Center for Expertise on WTO Issues within the framework of The WTO Public Forum.

Earlier, in an interview with RIA Novosti, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the WTO, Nikolai Platonov, said that strengthening the role of the World Trade Organization in regulating world trade is a priority task for Russia, and that Russia will gain nothing from leaving the WTO.
