OREANDA-NEWS The Spanish police found in a container with bananas the largest shipment of cocaine in the history of the kingdom weighing more than 13 tons, according to a press release issued on Wednesday by the country's law enforcement agencies.

"National police officers and employees of the customs supervision service of the tax agency intercepted a container with 13,062 kilograms of cocaine in the port of Algeciras, which is the largest shipment of this drug intercepted in the entire history of drug trafficking in Spain, as well as the second largest (in one container - ed.) in Europe and one of the most significant in the world," - the message says.

According to the police, as part of the investigation, five searches were conducted at homes and offices in Madrid and Alicante, one person was detained, two more responsible for the drug importing company were put on the wanted list. The operation was carried out in close cooperation with the national police of Ecuador, from where the goods were imported, the agency said.
