OREANDA-NEWS The Victory Parade will take place on May 9 on Red Square, but it is premature to say whether there will be an aviation unit.

This was announced to journalists on Monday by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. "Preparations are underway for the parade, it will take place," the Kremlin spokesman said. In his opinion, "this will be a very important event, traditional for May 9."

Peskov did not give an answer to the question whether the aviation part of the parade will take place. "It is still premature to make such announcements, I would not like to do this," the Kremlin spokesman explained. "We will inform you in a timely manner what elements the parade will include," he promised, noting that "it is too early to talk" about the various elements of the parade.

Victory Day is celebrated annually in Russia on May 9. On this day in 1945, the Act of Unconditional Surrender of Germany was signed, which ended the Great Patriotic War. The regulations for the celebration of Victory Day are explained by the federal law of 1995 "On Perpetuating the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945." So, on May 9, military parades involving weapons and military equipment are held in Moscow, hero cities and cities where the headquarters of military districts, fleets, combined arms armies and the Caspian Flotilla are stationed, as well as artillery salutes.

In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, festive events on May 9 in Moscow were postponed or moved to an online format. The military parade on the Red Square of the capital was then held on June 24.

This year, some regions, including, in particular, the Kursk region, Crimea, Sevastopol, where there is a high level of terrorist danger, announced the cancellation of military parades on May 9.
