OREANDA-NEWS. Russia is not going to interfere in the elections in Belarus, the Press Secretary for the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said.
He commented on the statement of the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, who said that he was going to discuss with Vladimir Putin the influence of "puppeteers" from Russia on the election processes in the country "in the near future".
"Here we can answer unequivocally that the Russian Federation has never interfered, does not interfere and is not going to interfere in anybody's electoral processes, let alone in the electoral processes that are taking place in our ally Belarus," Peskov said. He also noted that Minsk had provided no evidence of Moscow's interference in the elections. According to him, it makes one think about "the extent to which such charges can be true".
Peskov said that the day before, Putin and Lukashenko, who had arrived in Moscow for the Victory Parade, were able to have a short talk on the sidelines. The two leaders "will continue their dialogue, they communicate often and in a meaningful way," added the Kremlin representative.
He also reminded that there were "many good statements" about Russia from Lukashenko.
