OREANDA-NEWS The actualization of Russia's nuclear doctrine is conditioned by the current agenda, which was formed as a result of the actions of the West. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, as quoted by TASS.
"This updating of the nuclear doctrine is required by the current agenda and requires, in fact, the state of affairs that arose, probably, as a result of the actions of the collective West," Peskov said.
The West, in particular, refuses to engage in dialogue and continues its offensive against Russia's interests and security on the territory of Ukraine. These circumstances will be taken into account and will form the basis of those proposals that will be formulated on the issue of nuclear doctrine.
On September 1, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia would change its nuclear doctrine. This will happen based on an analysis of the conflicts and actions of the West in connection with the special military operation (SVO), he explained.
In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed for a change in the nuclear doctrine. According to the doctrine, the use of nuclear weapons is possible only "in an exceptional case, in the event of a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country," the head of state recalled. In his opinion, such a need has not yet arisen. The nuclear doctrine is a living instrument that must adapt to the realities, he is sure.
