OREANDA-NEWS. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the ban on the import of Russian oil and gas to the United States, which was introduced by President Joe Biden.
“Yes, indeed, the situation deserves a deep analysis. If you ask me what Russia will do, then Russia will do what it needs and benefits in this situation. We protect our interests and will act in accordance with our interests,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden announced a ban on Russian energy imports to the United States due to the events in Ukraine. According to him, Washington understands that European allies will not be able to join the ban on energy imports from Russia. He noted that this decision was supported by both parties.
Analysts at the American company JPMorgan expressed the opinion that the US refusal of Russian oil threatens the country with "huge financial losses."
Russian hydrocarbons account for more than 8% of all US imports. According to the authors of the material, the rejection of them will lead to a significant increase in prices, "at least until other energy supplies come from somewhere."
OPEC member countries could decide to increase oil production and exports to the United States, the publication indicated. But now they don't say anything about it.
It is noted that Middle Eastern energy suppliers are not trying to help the American side cope with the consequences of anti-Russian sanctions.
