OREANDA-NEWS The index of consumer sentiment of Russians in January reached 108.2 points, being above the historical maximum of May 2014. This is reported in the information and analytical commentary of the Bank of Russia "Inflation expectations and consumer sentiment".

The indicator is based on public opinion polls, the participants of which answer five basic questions reflecting the assessments and expectations of the population regarding personal well-being, the economic development of the country and the situation on the consumer market. It is measured in the range from 0 to 200, where 100 is the median value.

As it turned out this time, the share of citizens choosing to spend on expensive goods instead of saving increased by 3.5 percentage points over the month, to 30.6 percent. There are more Russians who prefer to keep their funds in banks, and the number of those who trust cash more strongly, on the contrary, has decreased. Both indicators were adjusted by 3 percentage points to 42 and 28 percent, respectively.

Earlier it became known that inflation expectations in Russia decreased in January to 12.7 percent compared with 14.2 percent in the previous month.
