The Human Rights Activist Spoke About the Conditions of Navalny's Stay in Jail
OREANDA-NEWS. The human rights activist Alexey Melnikov spoke about the conditions of Alexey Navalny's stay in Russian Jail «Matrosskaya Tishina». Secretary of the Public Monitoring Commission of Moscow visited the opposition leader in prison and wrote in the telegram channel, that he is placed in a three-person cell of the quarantine department. It contains only one politician, because after arriving from abroad, a 14-day quarantine must pass.
According to Melnikov, in the prison cell, where Navalny is being held, there is a refrigerator, an electric kettle, a TV and hot water. The politician was given bedding, dishes and a hygiene kit. Navalny told, that he was glad to be back in his homeland and thanked for the support. He also stated that the staff of the pre-trial detention center did not exert moral and physical pressure on him.
The day before, the Khimki District Court arrested Alexey Navalny for 30 days at the request of the Federal Penitentiary Service, which accuses the politician of evading the duties of a conditionally convicted person in the case of «Yves Rocher». The court session was held right in the building of the Department of Internal Affairs of Khimki. Before the court session, Navalny's lawyers were not allowed to see him. On February 2, the Simonovsky court of Moscow intends to consider the request of the Federal Penitentiary Service to replace Navalny's suspended sentence with a real one.
Navalny was detained at the passport control of Sheremetyevo Airport after returning from Berlin, where since August 2020 he was treated for poisoning with a military toxic substance from the «Novichok» group. As soon as the opposition leader announced his return to Russia, it became known that he was wanted in the country in the case of «Yves Rocher» and they want to replace his suspended sentence with a real one.
Navalny calls all criminal cases against him fabricated. The EU leadership, European and American politicians call on the Russian Federation to immediately free the opposition leader.
