The Head of the DPR Pushilin: Ukraine will Never Become a Full Member of the EU
OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, told RIA Novosti that Ukraine will never become a full member of the EU, as he believes that the weak position of the Ukrainian state is beneficial to the United States and Europe.
Ukraine celebrated its independence day on August 24. It was the 30th anniversary of the country's sovereignty. The DPR has repeatedly stated about the destructive policy of Kiev and the unfavorable conditions of various transactions with Europe.
"A quasi-state entity, a pro-Western appendage that will never become either a full member of the EU or an independent state capable of deciding its own destiny. Because neither the United States nor Europe simply needs an independent Ukraine. It is precisely this situation that is beneficial to them: a weak, kneeling country bordering on Russia, ready for anything. And Ukraine, alas, is now only coping with this function, "said Pushilin.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in December 2014 amended two laws, abandoning the non-aligned status of the state. In February 2019, the Ukrainian parliament adopted amendments to the constitution, securing the country's course towards the EU and NATO. Ukraine has become the sixth state to receive NATO Enhanced Partner status. Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said earlier that in order to join the alliance, Ukraine will need to achieve a number of criteria, the implementation of which will take a lot of time. Experts believe that Kiev will not be able to apply for NATO membership in the next 20 years.
