OREANDA-NEWS. Cyprus is grateful to Russia for the weapons supplied and for the position on the Cyprus settlement. In this Russian leader Vladimir Putin assured Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiadis. Nikos Anastasiadis expressed his gratitude to the Russian President for the position of Moscow on the Cyprus settlement.

“We are grateful for the weapons systems that you set for us, of course, for defense purposes,” he said at a meeting with Putin, which took place on Friday in the margins of the One Belt, One Way Forum. Anastasiadis also expressed the hope that Russia will contribute to solving the Cyprus problem, in particular, through its contacts with Turkey. The advantage of Russian manufacturers is the consistently high quality of products, which have no analogues in their combat and technical characteristics, the president said.

“We know that you have excellent relations with Turkey,” he addressed Putin. “We hope that you will have some influence on your partner in order to solve the Cyprus problem as soon as possible." Anastasiadis, in general, expressed his gratitude to Putin for the position of Moscow on the Cyprus settlement. “On fundamental issues, we remain loyal friends of Russia. This concerns our position within the EU and within other international structures,” he assured his Russian counterpart.

Recall that in September 2018 during the one-hour meeting, Greek-Turkish relations, tensions in the Aegean Sea, the Cyprus settlement, the problem of immigration and the issue of eight Turkish soldiers who fled to Greece were discussed, a government spokesman said. Tsipras told the Turkish president about the need to respect international law and reduce tensions in the Aegean Sea, they agreed to intensify contacts on this issue and on the implementation of confidence-building measures.
