OREANDA-NEWS  A detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet led by the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov made a business call at the port of Oran of the Algerian People's Democratic Republic, the press service of the fleet reported on Friday.

"Together with the frigate, the medium sea tanker Akademik Pashin performed a business call. The visit of the Russian sailors will last several days," the message says.

According to the fleet, the crews of the frigate and the support vessel plan to take part in protocol events, relax on shore after the transatlantic crossing, replenish fresh water and food supplies.

The long-range cruise of the frigate Admiral Gorshkov began on May 17. During this time, the frigate has traveled more than 13 thousand nautical miles, made calls at the port of Havana of the Republic of Cuba and the port of La Guaira of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the press service reports.

"The main objectives of the campaign are to demonstrate the flag and ensure a naval presence in operationally important areas of the far ocean zone," the navy said.

Admiral Gorshkov is a modern multipurpose ship. According to official data, he is armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles (Reutov NPO of Mechanical Engineering, Tactical Missile Armament Corporation, KTRV). Also among the frigate's main attack weapons are Kalibr cruise missiles (Almaz-Antey concern).
