The Foreign Ministry Promised to Provide Support to Belarus in the Event of EU Sanctions
OREANDA-NEWS. Any EU sanctions against Belarus are illegitimate, Moscow will provide Minsk with all-round support, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
"We consider the unilateral sanctions of the West against sovereign states unacceptable, illegitimate from the point of view of international law and reaffirm our determination to provide Belarus and its people with all-round support," Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday.
“We consider it unacceptable to make migration problems a pretext for introducing new sanctions against Belarus, against other countries,” she said during the briefing.
The EU should increase the sanctions pressure on the Belarusian regime, said the head of the European Council Charles Michel.
“It is important to adopt very specific and effective sanctions not against the Belarusian people, but against this regime, we have already taken measures against it, but probably we should even increase the level of sanctions pressure,” Michel said at a press conference following a meeting with the Prime Minister. Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki in Warsaw.
Warsaw should demand from the European Union (EU) and the United States to introduce new sanctions against Belarus and Russia due to the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. This call was made by the deputy of the Polish Seimas Janusz Kowalski on his Twitter page.
