The European Court of Human Rights Has Awarded Almost 10.000 Euros to an Activist of the «National Bolshevik Party» Banned in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. The European Court of Human Rights has found unfair the verdict against Olga Kudrina, an activist of the banned «National Bolshevik Party» (NBP). This was told to the Russian «Interfax» news agency on Tuesday, April 6, by her lawyer Dmitry Agranovsky.
«The European Court found Kudrina's right to a fair trial and freedom of expression violated and awarded her 9,800 euros in compensation», the lawyer said. According to Agranovsky, on the basis of the decision of the ECHR, he can apply to the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation for a review of the case of his client.
On May 10, 2006, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow sentenced Kudrina to three and a half years in prison for her involvement in the attack on the building of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in August 2004, as well as for «participating in a direct action action» in the Moscow hotel «Russia». On May 4, 2005, 20-year-old Kudrina and her partner, using climbing equipment, climbed out of the window of a room on the 11th floor of the west wing of the hotel, unfurled a banner with the inscription «Putin, go away by yourself!». Facing the Kremlin, a 10-meter-high black flag took up 4 floors. In addition, the national police scattered leaflets calling on the president to leave his post, and chanted «Putin, dive for the «Kursk» submarine».
According to Agranovsky, the ECHR pointed out, that the violation of the right to a fair trial was expressed in the refusal of the Russian court considering her case to bring the defense witnesses in custody to the trial, who had to confirm, that Kudrina did not participate in the action with the attack on the building of the Ministry of Health. In addition, the lawyer noted, the ECHR recognized, that the poster posted on the hotel could not be the basis for a criminal case and the appointment of a real punishment.
Kudrina was sentenced in her absence. The activist managed to leave the country and may be in Ukraine.
