OREANDA-NEWS. A draft has been published on the State Duma's website, according to which the list of paid activities that the military can engage in in addition to serving, also includes participation in sports events.

Now, in accordance with Article 10 of the Law on the Status of Servicemen, they are allowed only pedagogical, scientific and other paid creative activities, if it does not interfere with the performance of military service duties and is not financed exclusively from foreign sources.

The authors of the project explain that now many high-class Russian athletes are members of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Society "Dynamo" and the Central Sports Club of the Army and are in active military service. Because of this, they are not entitled to accept monetary funds and other rewards to pay for expenses related to participation in sports camps and training events, travel to training camps and competitions, provision of food and accommodation, as well as receive cash prizes for places taken in competitions.

The explanations to the draft state that the draft law proposes to eliminate the existing contradictions and bring the legislation in line with the current situation, which will ensure the legitimate and targeted provision of funds to athletes for their sports activities and get additional motivation to improve their sports skills by military personnel - high-class athletes.
