OREANDA-NEWS  The demand of Russian tourists for trips to Georgia has fallen due to mass riots in the country. This was reported by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).

According to experts, there are no mass cancellations and postponements of bookings, but sales of tours have slowed down. "If the situation does not stabilize, travelers who have the opportunity to refuse to travel to Georgia without losses or with minimal costs will start doing so," said Sergey Romashkin, Vice President of the organization for Domestic Tourism.

The representative of ATOR stated that it is not easy to replace the Georgian direction with another one. However, as the expert pointed out, it is almost impossible to realize the tourism potential of the Transcaucasian republic due to the current political situation.

Earlier it became known that no cases of attacks on Russian tourists in Georgia were recorded. Aleksan Mkrtchyan, Vice President of the Alliance of Travel Agencies of Russia, assessed the safety of trips to this country for compatriots. The expert noted that at least 15 thousand domestic travelers are currently in the republic.
