OREANDA-NEWS. In the morning of December 28, at about 7 am, the tragedy happened off the coast of Novaya Zemlya. The fishing trawler "Onega" sank with 19 people on board. Two crew members were saved. These are the second mate Vladislav Butorin and the sailor Ruslan Katyukhin.

4 vessels are involved in the rescue operation. All of them belong to the Kalinin fishing collective farm. This is a company that was engaged in fishing and on the sunken Onega. It is known that the aviation of the Northern Fleet went to the crash site. According to preliminary information, 17 crew members died.

According to Alexander Bakhtin, the first deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the Arkhangelsk Region, in any case it is impossible to reach the shore from the accident site, there is about 40 km. According to preliminary information, the crew was in special clothing. But it is obvious that the human body cannot withstand such low temperatures in icy water.

It is known that at the time of the crash there was a storm in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago - wind gusts reached 25 meters per second. And also low air temperature - frost over 30 degrees. And this, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, could have caused an emergency. The vessel lost stability and capsized. The crew did not have time to use the rescue equipment.

A criminal case has been initiated into the sinking of a fishing vessel. An inspection is carried out. The consequence is a set of necessary actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the ship's flooding.
