The Court Declared Illegal the Introduction of Isolation in Madrid
OREANDA-NEWS. The Madrid High Court refused to confirm the legality of measures to impose restrictions on movement in the capital and nine other municipalities in the region. According to the court’s decision, these measures “violate fundamental rights and freedoms”, and they were introduced without the approval of the Spanish parliament.
Last week, the Spanish Ministry of Health issued a decree according to which the authorities of the autonomous communities of Spain, where the most difficult situation with the spread of the coronavirus infection, should be isolated. These measures, according to the document, should be introduced in areas where the number of infections in the last 14 days is more than 500 cases per 100 thousand of the population, the number of positive tests exceeds 10 % of the total number, and the occupancy of intensive care wards is above 35 %.
The Spanish capital and nine other municipalities of the autonomous community fell under these criteria. 4.6 million people live in these territories.
