OREANDA-NEWS A plume of ash from the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka stretches for 40 km from, the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Group (KVERT) of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on Tuesday.

"Video and satellite data obtained by KVERT show that the plume of rising ash extends about 40 km east-southeast of the volcano," the report says.

This ash was blown up from the slopes of Shiveluch.

An orange aviation hazard code has been set for Shiveluch. The volcano is dangerous for local air travel.

Shiveluch is the northernmost active volcano in Kamchatka, located 45 km from the village of Klyuchi in the Ust-Kamchatsky district, where about 5 thousand people live. It is one of the largest volcanoes in Kamchatka.
