Ten Airplanes with Russian Peacekeepers Were Sent to Nagorno-Karabakh
OREANDA-NEWS. Ten airplanes Il-76 carrying Russian peacekeepers flew to the unrecognized Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. A total of 1,960 servicemen should be transferred to the region.
“There are the personnel of the peacekeeping unit, vehicles, armoured personnel carriers and materiel on board of the aircrafts,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The agency previously reported that it had begun to deploy peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. The core of the contingent will be units of the 15th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Central Military District, the station of which is located in the Samara Region. The brigade is staffed only by contract servicemen.
According to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russia will conduct the mission together with Turkey.
On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement to end the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and deploy Russian peacekeepers in the conflict area.
