According to the department, the number of employed teenagers has increased to 86.7 thousand people. Most minors work in agriculture and forestry (30.1 thousand people). In addition, they are attracted as low-skilled workers (26.3 thousand people). Another 17.3 thousand teenagers work in the service and trade sector.

In total, the number of people who are ready to work for hire and are looking for minors amounted to 104.9 thousand people in 2023. A year and two years earlier, their number was 81.3 and 87.9 thousand people, respectively.

According to Alexander Safonov, Professor of the Department of Psychology and Human Capital Development at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, the reason for the increase in the number of employed teenagers is the shortage of workers in the Russian market. This forces employers to pay more attention to young people, even realizing their low level of qualifications. Companies are forced to open part-time jobs and flexible schedules specifically for young people, said Viktor Lyashok, a leading researcher at the INSAP Center of the IPEI Presidential Academy.

After the State Duma allowed to get a job without the permission of the guardianship authorities (with the consent of one of the parents and obtaining a medical certificate), the number of vacancies for minors increased by 300-400 percent. The number of employed teenagers has also increased in 2023.

As the survey of the job search service showed hh.ru The majority of Russians (64 percent) reacted positively to the employment of teenagers. 16 percent of respondents are neutral about this idea, and another 17 percent of Russians do not support the initiative to work at school age.
