Swedish Government Adviser Named Two Main Measures to Fight the Virus
OREANDA-NEWS. In their strategy to fight against coronavirus, the Swedish authorities relied only on measures which benefit has scientific justification. This was stated by Professor Johan Giesecke, an epidemiologist, adviser to the Swedish government and the Secretary-General of the World Health Organization, in an interview with RBC news agency.
“In our opinion, there are only two such measures. First, we need to wash our hands, and we have known about it for 150 years. Secondly, it is necessary to maintain social distance, that is, do not get too close to other people,” he said.
According to Giesecke, the benefits of other tough measures in the fight against the virus are not obvious. In particular, Sweden does not consider it necessary to tighten border controls, since each country has growing foci of the disease, and therefore it makes no sense to worry about importing the virus from abroad. “The closure of schools probably does not entail any consequences at all. Prevent people from going out? This is stupid, such prohibitions do not have scientific justification,” the epidemiologist added.
