OREANDA-NEWS. Sweden’s State Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell admitted that the authorities of the country should have taken more restrictive measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in the early stages of the epidemic.

“If we again come across this disease, already knowing what we know about it today, I think we will do something between what Sweden has done and what the rest of the world has done. I think that we could improve a lot from what has been done, it’s quite obvious,” Tegnell said in an interview.

However, according to him, it is still not completely clear what measures are needed to be taken initially in order to defeat COVID-19 more effectively. “And then, perhaps, we will learn from this some lesson regarding what else, apart from the measures we had taken, could have been done without the introduction of full quarantine,” he explained.

According to the latest data, almost 38.6 thousand cases of infection with coronavirus were registered in the country. 4468 people died. For one week in the middle of May, Sweden had the highest mortality per capita among European states, the figures were larger than in the USA and Canada.
