OREANDA-NEWS. Russia scrambled two Su-27 because US bomber B-52 was noticed over the Baltic Sea. Russian Defense Ministry showed the video of the chase in its account on Facebook.

Russian Defense Ministry reported that the bomber B-52 from USA was noticed over international waters of the Baltic Sea. It published a video of two Russian fighter jets Su-27 escorting American strategic bomber B-52 over the Baltic Sea. Ten-second video is posted on the department's page on Facebook.

“Russian airspace control means detected the air target at a considerable distance from the state border of the Russian Federation, and it was escorted”, the message of the ministry says. “To identify and directly escort the aircraft, two Su-27s from the duty force on air defense were scrambled.”

The Defense Ministry also told the media that the strategic bomber was taken under observation, and as soon as B-52H has changed its flight trajectory away from the state border of the Russian Federation, Su-27 jets returned to the home airfield.

Recently, the activity of foreign military aircrafts near the borders of Russia has increased significantly. Suffice to say, on Monday a Boeing B-52 “Stratofortress” was noticed near the borders of the Leningrad Region. American pilots also simulated bombing of the base of the Baltic Fleet, approaching by 191 kilometers to St. Petersburg during the flight.

Boeing B-52H “Stratofortress” - a strategic bomber, in service in the US Air Force since 1955. The aircraft is capable of carrying various types of weapons, including nuclear ones.
