OREANDA-NEWS Rescuers warned about the risk of failure under the ice during the explosions of the congestion on the Bureya river in the Khabarovsk territory. This was reported in a release distributed on Monday, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the region.

In mid-December 2018, in the Verkhnebureinsky district of the Khabarovsk territory, about 70 km from the village of Chekunda, there was a descent of soil from the hill with a volume of more than 30 million cubic meters, which blocked the riverbed of the Bureya river, on which the Bureyskaya HPP is located. Scientists described the incident as a landslide, the largest in the country in recent years. Forces and means of the Ministry of Defence are involved in elimination of the formed congestion.

"On January, 22 in the area of the descent of rocky soil on the riverbed of the Bureya in the verkhnebureinsk region, it is planned to carry out the first stage of work on undermining the blockage of the soil and creating a hole in the body of the formed natural dam. In order to ensure the safety of the population and limit the entry of people into the danger zone by employees of the Ministry of internal Affairs, local administration, Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, rescuers, the Ministry of defense of Russia organized special posts in places of possible exit or exit on the ice in the Verkhnebureinsky district", - said in the release.

Ice will become dangerous almost throughout the river: as a result of explosions and changes in the speed of the water flow, voids may form, cracks may occur.

It is also reported that an airmobile group of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Amur region consisting of 38 people and 10 units of equipment was sent to the Talakan village of the Bureinsky district of the Amur region, which is about 130 km from the landslide site. Rescuers will be on duty in places of departure and exit of people on ice. People on the ice will be detected with the help of a drone.
