OREANDA-NEWS. The Council of Europe began to lose its meaning, because recently it has devoted itself to criticizing the Russian Federation and putting pressure on it, said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. This was reported in the politician's Telegram channel.
According to the deputy, the organization will have nothing to do without Moscow.
“All the last time he [the Council of Europe] devoted to Russia, its criticism, condemnation, pressure, appeals and resolutions,” Volodin noted.
As a solution to the situation that had arisen, Volodin figured out how the organization should act.
“There is only one way out - to disband. Leaving the Council of Europe, we will pay more attention to bilateral relations,” said the State Duma deputy.
Earlier, the US State Department commented on Russia's withdrawal from the Council of Europe.
The head of the press service of the US State Department, Ned Price, said that Russia has no place in the Council of Europe because of the different views on values. He announced this at a briefing, TASS reports.
“Russia clearly does not share the same values, so it can only be considered reasonable that Russia is not a member of the council,” he said.
On March 10, the Russian Federation decided to withdraw from the Council of Europe. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov handed a corresponding letter to the Secretary General of the organization.
