OREANDA-NEWS Those who pluck mimosa in unauthorized places and in the flower beds of Sochi on the eve of International Women's Day on March 8 will be punished with a fine, the work of monitoring services during this period will be strengthened, the city hall warned.

International Women's Day is celebrated in Russia on March 8, as the festive date approaches, the number of traders of mimosa flowers, which are a kind of symbol of spring, increases. Some entrepreneurs pluck silver acacia flowers from urban areas and sell them at local markets. The first bouquets are already appearing on the Sochi shelves.

"On the eve of the main women's holiday – March 8, the Sochi city administration will strengthen control over the facts of unauthorized collection of silver acacia or mimosa, as well as the safety of floral decoration in city flower beds. In accordance with the law of the Krasnodar Territory No. 2695-KZ "On the protection of green spaces in the Krasnodar Territory" and the current city rules of landscaping, damage to any green spaces entails bringing the perpetrator to administrative responsibility with the presentation of a calculation of the damage caused," the mayor's office explained to RIA Novosti.

Those who notice the "destruction" of mimosa are asked to inform the city Department of Environmental Protection or law enforcement.

As the city authorities clarified to the agency, in case of detection of illegal collection of flowers from urban areas, individuals will pay a fine of two to four thousand rubles, officials - from 20 to 39 thousand, legal entities will be punished with a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles. In case of repeated violations, the amounts will increase.
In January, Galina Soltani, a leading researcher at the Sochi National Park Federal State Budgetary Institution, told RIA Novosti that the mimosa bloomed ahead of schedule due to the warm autumn. Sochi customs has already reported on the first deliveries of spring flowers, the day before 150 kilograms of mimosa were delivered to Russia from the Republic of Abkhazia.

Mimosa (silver acacia) is a genus of flowering plants. Its homeland is Australia, but the shrub can be found in Abkhazia and Sochi. The height reaches 10-12 meters. In Sochi, mimosa can be found in almost every major area of the city, including on the border with Abkhazia. Trees with yellow flowers also grow in the federal territory of Sirius near the borders with Adler, especially in the area of the village of Mirny.
