Sobyanin Called “Colossal” Budget Losses in Moscow Due to Pandemic
OREANDA-NEWS. As the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said in the Moscow City Duma, Moscow's budget lost over 600 billion rubles due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
According to statistics, Moscow is in first place in Russia in terms of the number of people infected with coronavirus. Over the past day, as of Wednesday, December 16, 5,028 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected in the capital. Over the entire time of the pandemic, more than 708.5 thousand cases have been identified in the city.
According to the mayor, according to the latest estimates, the loss of city budget revenues will exceed a colossal figure of 600 billion rubles, of which about 300 billion are lost revenues, more than 300 billion went to forced, unplanned expenses to fight the pandemic.
The mayor said that the exact losses of the city have not yet been calculated. Obviously, trade, services, tourism, sports, recreation and entertainment, and other important sectors of the economy have lost a lot. He added that the incomes of citizens were significantly reduced, thousands of people lost their jobs or were forced to close their businesses.
At the same time, the large margin of safety of the Moscow economy made it possible to fulfill all social obligations and support business and enterprises. About 13 thousand enterprises have already used the support.
Sergei Sobyanin said that "the economy will recover, but this will not happen by itself, not so easily."
