OREANDA-NEWS. As a result of a special operation in Russia, six members of a cell raising funds to finance the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, banned in Russia) were detained. This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee.

“According to investigators, in the period from 2016 to June 2017, members of the international terrorist organization Islamic State from among the citizens of the Russian Federation, being on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, organized financing of its terrorist activities,” the agency’s statement reads.

The cell managed to collect at least 500 thousand roubles (about 6,800 US dollars) on the territory of the North Caucasian, Southern, Central, Northwestern, Siberian and Ural federal districts, including money received from persons involved in criminal cases of terrorist crimes.
