OREANDA-NEWS About 2.8 million people have been granted Russian citizenship since 1992, Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexei Klimov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"According to available data, from 1992 to the present, about 2.8 million people have been granted Russian citizenship in Russia's diplomatic missions and consular offices," he said.
According to the diplomat, most of the applications submitted were from the countries of the former Soviet Union, as well as countries with a large Russian-speaking diaspora: Bulgaria, Great Britain, Greece, Israel, Spain, Italy, the United States, Turkey, France, and Germany.
"According to available data, from 1992 to the present, about 2.8 million people have been granted Russian citizenship in Russia's diplomatic missions and consular offices," he said.
