Scientist from the Russian Federation Was Charged in Germany With Espionage
OREANDA-NEWS The German Federal Prosecutor's Office has brought charges of espionage against the Russian scientist Ilnur N., the press service of the prosecutor's office reported on Thursday, January 27.According to this document, the charge was brought in early December 2021.
The Russian was detained on June 18, 2021. «No later than the autumn of 2019, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service established contact with the accused», as a result, «he expressed readiness to cooperate» with the service, the message further states.
According to the investigation, since November 2019, Ilnur N. has regularly met in Germany with one of the Russian officers and handed him materials of a research project in the field of aero and space technologies, in particular about the development of the European Ariane launch vehicle. For these services, N. received a monetary reward in the amount of 2.5 thousand euros in cash.
Prior to his detention, the Russian worked as a researcher at the Department of Natural and Technical Sciences of a university in Bavaria. The prosecutor's office did not say which university the accused worked at, but, according to German media, it was the University of Augsburg, where Ilnur N. wrote his dissertation and conducted research on hybrid systems of materials for lightweight structures.
According to the article on illegal agent activity, the Russian faces up to five years in prison.
