OREANDA-NEWS The Russian Embassy in Indonesia has not received reports of casualties among Russians in connection with the eruption of the Marapi volcano in the country, the diplomatic mission told RIA Novosti.
"There is no information, the embassy has not received any requests from Russians in connection with this situation," the embassy told the agency.
Earlier it was reported that the death toll from a volcanic eruption in Indonesia has increased to 13. In total, Indonesian authorities claimed 75 climbers who were trapped during the eruption of Marapi on Sunday afternoon. Then 49 people were successfully evacuated.
Earlier, the Japanese Meteorological Administration, citing the Darwin Advisory Center on Volcanic Ash, reported that the ash column after the eruption of Mount Marapi on Sumatra island amounted to 15,000 meters.
Indonesia is part of the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire". A band of volcanoes and tectonic faults 40 thousand kilometers long encircles the Pacific Ocean, running along the coast of South and North America to the southern part of Alaska, then turns to Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia and ends near the island of New Guinea, New Zealand and the southwestern part of Oceania. It is in the "Ring of Fire" that almost 90 percent of the approximately 1.5 thousand known volcanoes of the planet are located.
