Russian Trade Unions Chief Proposed the Government to Nationalize Key Companies
OREANDA-NEWS. Mikhail Shmakov, the Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia, sent a letter to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, in which he proposed to begin the nationalization of strategically important companies in the country.
“The fall in the value of stocks of companies, the economic problems of enterprises can lead to the growth of speculative transactions in order to capture enterprises. In this regard, we consider it necessary to urgently develop a mechanism for the nationalization of enterprises that are important for the Russian economy and ensuring social stability, and start its practical use,” Shmakov explained. According to him, key companies should be identified by the Russian Tripartite Commission for the Regulation of Social and Labour Relations, including representatives of trade unions, all-Russian associations and the government.
Among the other measures, Shmakov offered to establish progressive income tax.
