Russian Top Manager Is Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Espionage
OREANDA-NEWS. The Moscow City Court sentenced Karina Turcan, former top manager of the company Inter RAO, to 15 years in prison for espionage in favour of Moldova. The court also turned over 656 million roubles (about 8.9 million US dollars) into state revenue.
The defense intends to appeal the verdict. “We disagree with the conviction, and we will challenge against it in the appeal instance and, if necessary, in the cassation instance,” Turcan’s lawyer Ivan Pavlov said. “We will do everything to ensure that this unjust verdict is canceled,” he added.
Turcan was detained in June 2018. According to the investigation, she transferred information abroad about the supply of Russian electricity to Donbass in 2015. She was attracted to cooperation in 2004 by the Information and Security Service of Moldova. Turcan did not admit her guilt.
