OREANDA-NEWS Samara University scientists have developed miniature laser "needles" that allow high precision processing of materials, giving them new properties, the university's press service reported.
According to the researchers, an important area of application of light "needles" is the creation and modification of materials at the nanoscale, which makes it possible to design complex structures with unique properties and improved characteristics. In addition, the high accuracy and flexibility of the light "needles" make them an indispensable tool in the field of optical microscopy. With their help, you can get high-resolution images.
"The advantage of our needles is the relatively uniform distribution of light energy in the focus. This means that even with small deviations in the optical system, the laser beam retains sufficient intensity to interact with the object. This stability makes it possible to compensate for errors in equipment configuration and ensures high accuracy of manipulations," said Dmitry Saveliev, Associate Professor of the Department of Technical Cybernetics at Samara University.
According to him, light "needles" can also be used to store information with high density, which allows you to create more compact and capacious data carriers.
