OREANDA-NEWS   A detachment of the International Mine Action Center of the Russian Armed Forces arrived in Laos some days ago. Today, the detachment began demining the forests of the country. There are a lot of bomb after the bombing in 1964-1973. This information is reported by the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

"Today, in the locality of Lac Sao in the province of Bolikhamsai of the Lao people's Democratic Republic, the opening ceremony of the beginning of demining tasks by the detachment of the International Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was held. Then, the Russian sappers started continuous cleaning of the district of explosive subjects around performance of the task", — it is told in the message.

The ceremony was attended by soldiers of the demining unit of the people's army of Laos.  Russian sappers established full cooperation with people of Laos.

"This joint work is an area of cooperation between both two countries and a number of other countries, within the framework of ASEAN, in which Laos and Russia are co-chairs of the expert group on humanitarian demining. It will provide security for the civilian population and will contribute to the socio-economic development of the country," said Deputy Defense Minister of Laos Onsi Sensuk.

A detachment of 36 soldiers of the International Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for five months to carry out humanitarian demining near the village of Lac Sao 350 kilometers from Vientiane. More than a hundred hectares of wooded area will be cleared of explosive objects left after the American bombing in the period from 1964 to 1973. One of the features of the task is to find and neutralize unexploded bombs and mines, which are located in the ground at a depth of 40 centimeters to 2.5 meters.

Lieutenant General sure, Russian sappers were invited to Laos, as they are well demining of Aleppo and Palmyra.
