Russian Sapiega Sent a Petition for Clemency to Lukashenko
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Sofia Sapiega sent a petition for clemency to President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko. The girl was charged with seven counts of the criminal code in Belarus. This information was reported on the air of the Echo of Moscow radio station by Sofia's stepfather Sergey Dudich.
«Some decision can be made only after the trial. But we still hope for a presidential clemency. I know that Sofia has written a petition for pardon addressed to the President of the Republic of Belarus. We will wait», Dudich said.
Sapiega was detained on May 23 after an emergency landing in Minsk of a Ryanair plane on which she was flying from Athens to Vilnius together with the former editor-in-chief of the NEXTA Telegram channel, recognized as extremist in Belarus, Roman Protasevich. They were taken off the flight, and then arrested. After being detained since October 20, Sofia Sapieha has been under house arrest in the city of Lida in her parent's apartment.
On October 8, she was charged. The same criminal case involves former employees of Beltelecom and other people who posted personal data in illegal Telegram channels.
